Voronezh State University

VSU is one of the leading classical universities of Russia. It was founded in 1918. It includes 17 faculties, 5 research institutes, 14 joint laboratories with the Russian Academy of Sciences. VSU collaborates with 68 foreign universities and research institutes of the world. It participated in a number of education and research projects of European programmes including 7 TEMPUS/TACIS projects (since 1994). At present VSU is actively modernising its academic models in line with the principles of the "Bologna process" to provide modern academic services for Russian and foreign students. 21,000 including 1 000 foreign graduate and post-graduate students study at VSU.

VSU comprises of Applied Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, Biology and Soil Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Sciences,Economics,Geography, Geoecology and Tourism,Geology,History,International Relations,Journalism,Law,Mathematics,Military Education,Pharmaceutics,Philology,Philosophy and Psychology,Physics,Romance and Germanic Philology Faculties.

Faculty of Physics was founded in 1918. It consists of 10 Departments. There are about 140 lectures including 35 professors. It includes 41 laboratories, 3 display classes, branches of the Faculty departments at research institutes and industrial enterprises, Research Institute of Physics. Training of specialists in the following directions is conducted at the Faculty:

  • Nuclear Physics and Technology
  • Computer Engineering and Informatics

In September 2013, the university was rated among the 800 best universities in the world by the QS. The list of 800 universities were 18 Russian universities. On the 16th September 2014, the QS World University Rankings published a ranking of top universities, which is one of the most recognised in the world. On 15th September 2015 the British company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has included Voronezh State University for the third year in a row. In QS World University Rankings 2015 our university was rated 701+ among the best world universities and was placed alongside such universities as Plekhanov's Russian Economic University, National University of Science and Technology "MISiS" and Lobachevsky's Research University. The ranking covers 21 Russian universities among which Voronezh State University takes the 18th position. On 21 October QS has published the results of regional QS University Rankings: EECA 2015 that includes 500 universities from 20 countries in Emerging Europe and Central Asia.
